Physiotherapist
Richard Boden
(BScPT / GunnIMS / MCPA)
Rick’s interest in the field began while receiving treatments for injuries resulting from an accident with a vehicle while cycling. The positive experience inspired him to change his career path from graduated studies in molecular virology to the UBC Physiotherapy program. He graduated in 2002 and has continued a commitment to lifelong learning, refinement and expansion of his skills. Rick’s diverse background in physiotherapeutic techniques blends traditional skills with complimentary care strategies. He is a certified Chan Gunn Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) practitioner, and has extensive postgraduate course work in Manipulative Therapy, neurological rehabilitation, and movement/postural re-education. Outside of the clinic Rick has worked as a trainer for sports teams and is a classifier for athletes participating in quadriplegic rugby. He is an exam writer and reviewer for the Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators, and he has been a clinical supervisor for physiotherapy students enrolled in the UBC program. Rick is an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys backcountry skiing, mountaineering, and rock climbing. He has a daily yoga practice that involves pranayama and Vipassana meditation.
Approach to treatment:
Rick specializes in the assessment and treatment of conditions involving the bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, tendons and neurological tissue of the neuromuscular system. He looks closely at postural and biomechanical imbalances in the body that may lead to pain and dysfunction. A treatment may include a combination of “hands-on” Manual Therapy, Massage, Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS), Mechanical Traction, Electrotherapy, and precise Exercise Prescription.
