Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q)
Q: Do I need a doctor’s referral to come to physiotherapy?
A: Anyone can see a physiotherapist. We do not need a letter form your physician unless you are being treated for an ICBC or WCB claim. If you have extended medical coverage and are seeking reimbursement for your visits you will want to check with your service provider. Every company is different and some private insurance companies require a doctor’s referral before they reimburse you for the cost of your visit.
Q: What should I wear?
A: You will want to wear something that gives your therapist access to the part of you that needs attention. For example if you are seeking counsel for a knee injury wear shorts. We also can provide you with shorts or a t-shirt if you forget.
Q: How long will a visit take?
A: The duration of your appointment depends on the nature and severity of your condition. An initial appointment generally takes between 45 minutes to an hour with Tony, Richard and Sharon. Appointments with Colin last between 60 to 90 minutes. If you are a new patient please arrive 10 minutes early for your appointment so you can fill out a new patient form and we can enter you into our system.
Q: How much will it cost?
A: Please look at our fees page.
Q: What do our Physiotherapists do?
A: The art and science of Physiotherapy is to identify the cause of an injury or illness and eliminate the symptoms that prevent you from experiencing optimal health.
Our skilled Physical Therapists work hard to address your specific area of dysfunction and consider your ultimate goals in customizing a treatment plan. We draw on our expertise, integrity, and commitment to client care to help you return to an improved quality of life as quickly and safely as possible.
Q: What can I expect from the treatment process?
A: We begin by taking a detailed history to find the root cause of your condition, conduct a comprehensive physical examination and start a treatment plan on your very first visit. We design an individualized program that includes various complimentary therapeutic techniques. Depending on your condition this may include Manual “hands-on” Therapy, IMS and simple Exercise Prescription. We forecast how many treatments you may need to prevent further injury and monitor and reassess your progress as we go. We believe that most people heal faster when they really understand their injury or illness. We strive to educate you about your condition so you can stay healthy when your treatments are complete. We give you the self-management tools to expedite your healing process and the knowledge to prevent re-injury.
Q: What are the skills and qualifications of our therapists?
A: Sport and Spinal has assembled a team of health care experts, dedicated to help you achieve improved fitness and quality of life. Combined, our education, experience, professional affiliations and ability to use a variety of techniques helps you get better, faster. Our therapists have degrees in Physical Education (BPE), Health Sciences (BHScPT), Physical Therapy (BScPT) and many hold the highest level of Physiotherapy training in Canada; recognized as fellows by the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Therapists (FCAMT). Colin, Tony, Richard and Sharon have advanced certification in Manual Therapy and are Members of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association (MCPA) with additional training in Intramuscular Stimulation (CGIMS) and from the Canadian Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute (CAFCI).
Every new patient is required to fill a general information form. We have these forms at the office, or you can print off the form and complete it before you arrive: New Patient Form
